Update 3.2: The Skills Tie Together

Update 3.2: The Skills Tie Together

This update ties the skills together. New trees, a big pass on what monsters and creatures drop, a points shop for Slayer, new things to pull out of the water, glassblowing (with an ale to brew and a pet fish to catch), bird houses, a rare drop table, and a better collection log with a loot tracker.

New trees

The oak, willow, maple and yew trees are redrawn from scratch, with a gentle sway while you chop. The Farming versions grow into the same trees, stage by stage, so a tree you plant ends up looking like the one you cut.

Bird houses

A new way to hunt birds. Build a bird house from 4 logs at the crafting bench and hunt it with Hunter. Each catch eats one seed as bait and gives 3 to 8 feathers, with a chance of seeds, a tree seed (the better the wood, the better the tree) and bird’s eggs. A house holds for 10 catches.

Your character has a new pose for it, tossing a handful of seed toward the house. Every wood draws its own birds, from bluebirds at the oak house to silver and gold ones at the elder house. And when the birds get away they really do fly off, and land again a moment later.

Nests changed too. They now hold seeds (45%), a tree seed (25%) or a bird’s egg (10%), as well as the jewellery (20%). Offer a red, blue or green bird’s egg at the altar for 580 Prayer experience.

From the water

Fishing brings up more than fish now: seaweed at any spot (about 1 in 40 catches), fish roe at the trout and salmon spots, caviar where swordfish and sharks swim, and the odd oyster from lobster up. Open an oyster from your bank and about one in four holds a pearl. A pearl cuts into 15 Pearl Bolt Tips (Fletching 41), which go on 15 iron bolts to make Pearl-tipped Bolts for the crossbow.

Glassblowing

Crush limestone into sand (Crafting 10), burn seaweed on the fire into soda ash (Cooking), melt sand and soda ash into molten glass at the furnace (Crafting), and blow the glass into an empty vial (Crafting 33). Sand and seaweed can be bought in the shop, and Earth Clicklings sometimes carry a few handfuls of sand. Your character blows the glass on a pipe, crushes limestone with the chisel, and melts glass at the furnace.

Molten glass also blows into a beer glass (Crafting 1) or a fishbowl (Crafting 42). Brew a Dwarven Stout at Cooking 19 from two wheat and a beer glass. Drink it for +2 Mining to land a strike. It only wears off while you mine.

A pet fish

Lay a strand of seaweed in a fishbowl and keep it in your bank while you fish. Sooner or later a tiny fish swims in. It goes to your bank as a pet: equip it and it sits beside you, bowl and all. There are three to find: blue, green and spiny.

Slayer: the masters’ teaching

Slayer points buy things now, under the masters’ gold stock:

  • Broad Fletching (300 points): fletch broadhead arrows. Any broadheads you already have are yours to keep, but fletching more now takes the unlock.
  • Slayer Goggles (400 points): learn to craft them at Crafting 55 from Waxen Earplugs, a Mirror Charm, Reinforced Goggles, a Warding Censer and a Serpentine Eye. They count as every one of those counters and keep the eye’s on-task accuracy, in one utility slot.
  • Longer Tasks (150 points, can be switched off): tasks are 1.5 times longer and pay 1.5 times the points.
  • Boss Tasks (200 points, can be switched off): Vex and Karst can give you a boss of their tiers as a task, 10 to 30 kills, for 1.5 times the points. With Longer Tasks on as well, both apply.

The Slayer console: the masters’ gold stock, and the masters’ teaching under it with the four point unlocks

The goggles change colour with your combat style: red lenses for Melee, green for Ranged, blue for Magic. They also show on the crossbow and salamander poses now, and sit right on every combat pose.

Drops

A big pass on what monsters and creatures drop. The short version:

  • Birds drop 5 to 10 feathers each (was 1 to 3) and bones. The pickup text shows every item on its own line, so the feathers no longer vanish under the meat.
  • More things drop the bones you’d expect: Burrowers, the Veld Lynx, the Ridge Prowler, the Sabre Cat, chickens, cows, unicorns, Stonegaze Basilisks, terrorbirds and dust devils. Antelope and Moss Giants drop big bones, wolves drop wolf bones only, and Green Dragons drop dragon bones only.
  • Demons burn to ashes. Hellhounds, Lesser Demons and Abyssal Demons drop ashes instead of bones (Abyssal Demons still drop Abyssal Bones), and Imps now and then.
  • The Root-Hog always leaves an Unidentified Herb, Dark Burrowers give dark fur half the time, and Aberrant Spectres drop an Unidentified Herb on 60% of kills.

The rare drop table: the 15 toughest monsters (not bosses) have a 1 in 128 chance on each kill to roll a shared table of uncut gems, nature, chaos and death runes, runite ore, rune and adamant bars, or a Seed Pack. Hover the “Rare drop table” row in a monster’s guide page to see everything on it.

Seed Packs: open one from your bank for one seed from the middle and top of the seed list. The good kinds turn up far more often than from a pile of unsorted seeds. They drop from the toughest monsters that drop seeds, and from the rare drop table.

New potions

  • Angler’s Potion (Herblore 50, averwort + fish roe): +3 Fishing to land a catch.
  • Super Angler’s Potion (Herblore 70, quellroot + caviar): +5 Fishing to land a catch.
  • Tracker’s Potion (Herblore 53, averwort + bone spike): +3 Hunter to make a catch.
  • Compost Potion (Herblore 22, harrowvine + oak ash): at Farming 22, one dose turns 4 compost into 4 supercompost.

The first three help a catch land. They never open a spot or a creature your level hasn’t reached, and they only wear down while you’re doing the skill they help.

Farming has two new crops for Herblore too: the White Berry Bush (Farming 59) and Fenreed (Farming 61). Their seeds come from sorting seeds.

Collection log and loot

The collection log counts how many of each thing you have found. Hover an item to see where the first one came from, with the kill count for monster drops. It also shows your collection rank, from Bronze at 25% up to Dragon at 100%, and how many more finds the next rank needs.

There’s a new Loot tab in Stats: everything each monster, skill, nest and oyster has given you since you last reset it, what it’s worth, and the gold it paid. Reset one source or all of them.

And the rest

Burning food puffs smoke and ash off the fire. Dragon armour, the Dragon Sword and the Dragon Shield are a slightly darker red. Bird houses and Hunter traps show the right wood while you build them. Picking Thieving for the first time chooses the best mark your level allows, not Townsfolk. The guide covers nests, the Fishing side catches, seed packs and bird houses, and the game window and taskbar use the new RC icon. “Rarest item ever” now counts monster drops. It never did before, so yours may change once when you load in.

The darker red Dragon armour, sword and shield

Pressing Fight in the Slayer menu now shows your new task’s monster on the monster button. It kept the old one’s name before. Thanks to Tian bao for reporting it through the in-game feedback button! A settings file with an odd value in it no longer resets the settings that come after it, the leaderboard reset messages are translated, and a hand-edited or damaged save with a word where a number or yes/no belongs no longer stops the Slayer progress from loading.

Everything new is translated into all nine languages, and your save carries straight over. The full notes for 3.2 are on Steam, with every number.

Keep the feedback coming. It’s in Settings > Feedback, and every message gets read.
