Update 3.3.0

Dragons and the King Black Dragon, new Slayer beasts and superiors, journals and lamps, and the Magic spell ladder

Vosk's notes, as posted on Steam (read them there). The story behind it, with clips: Update 3.3: Dragons Breathe Fire.

The biggest update since Hunter and Agility. Dragons of every colour and the King Black Dragon, four new Slayer beasts with superior versions of twelve of them, journals that pay out in lamps and lasting perks, the rest of the Magic spell ladder, slayer trophies for your Holding, and a long list of smaller things you asked for.

Dragons

  • Three new dragons: the Blue Dragon, the Red Dragon and the Black Dragon. Karst assigns them, and none of them needs a Slayer level. Like the Green Dragon, their hard scales make them weak to Magic.
  • Every dragon now breathes fire, the Green Dragon too. One counterattack in four is a breath. It never misses and no prayer blocks it. A breath hits for up to 20 (Green), 30 (Blue), 40 (Red) or 50 (Black). The Green Dragon used to only bite, even when it played its breath animation.
  • An Anti-dragon Shield or an antifire potion cuts a breath to a fifth. Both together, or a super antifire on its own, stops it. Vengeance throws breath damage back too. The first breath you take unprotected tells you what helps.
  • New boss: the King Black Dragon. 5,400 HP, a hide that shrugs off Magic, and a breath of up to 60. Every kill drops dragon bones, black dragonhide and black dragon scales, with rune armour, bars and runes on top. Karst can give it as a Boss Task.
  • The King Black Dragon is the only source of the Draconic Visage (1 in 5,000), the Dragon Helmet (1 in 10,000) and a new pet, the Prince Black Dragon (1 in 10,000).
  • Dragons drop their scales (the Green Dragon now drops Green Dragon Scales on half its kills). Crush them into dust at Herblore 5.
  • Four antifire potions, one for each scale colour. Antifire Potion (Herblore 69, green scale dust) and Extended Antifire (84, blue) cut a breath to a fifth. Super Antifire (92, red) and Extended Super Antifire (98, black) stop it. The extended ones last twice as long. They only wear down in combat.
  • The Anti-dragon Shield is in the shop's Production tab (+30 Defence, no level needed). Smith it with a Draconic Visage and 5 rune bars into a Dragonfire Shield at Smithing 90 (+92 Defence, needs Defence 75). Both guard against dragonfire, and both go with a crossbow too: in your Ranged loadout they show as a buckler.
  • Blue, Red and Black Dragonhide armour: a helmet, body, chaps and buckler for each, crafted from the new hides at Crafting 66 to 84 and worn at Defence and Ranged 50, 60 and 70.
  • All dragonhide, the Green set too, now shows its scales, on your character and on the bank icons.

Slayer

  • Four new beasts:
  • Crawling Hand (Slayer 5, from Brann).
  • Thornback Brute (Slayer 70, from Karst). Only three things hurt it: a Leafbite Blade, Broadhead Arrows or the Magic Dart spell. It tells you every way in if you bring the wrong thing. Against the Brute, the Magic Dart hits as hard as the strongest spell you can cast. The masters sell the Leafbite Blade for gold, and the Brute drops one now and then.
  • Dark Beast (Slayer 90, from Karst). No tricks, a lot of HP, good loot, and a new drop: the Dark Bow (1 in 512), a two-handed bow just under the elder shortbow.
  • Bigger and Badder (50 Slayer points, can be switched off): on a task, every kill has a 1 in 200 chance that the next one is a superior beast. Twelve Slayer monsters have one, each with its own name and art: the Crushing Hand, Screaming Banshee, Monstrous Basilisk, Bramble Matriarch, Abhorrent Spectre, Choke Devil, Antediluvian Vampyre, Greater Abyssal Demon, Thornback Tyrant, Gravewing Archfiend, Marble Gargoyle and Night Beast.
  • A superior has two to four times the HP and hits harder. It pays Slayer experience worth a few dozen of its kind, drops its normal loot three times over, and counts as one kill of your task. Switching target, dying or quitting loses a superior that's waiting to appear.
  • The Greater Abyssal Demon sometimes stops to harden its hide, and your blows glance off for a moment.
  • Superiors can drop an Imbued Heart (1 in 8 of their special rolls), a Dust Battlestaff or a Mist Battlestaff. The heart sits in your potion rack and is never used up: it lifts your Magic by up to 10, slowly fades, and comes back to full every so often. Its chip shows the boost it gives right now. Wield a battlestaff in your Magic loadout and your spells, Spellcraft included, never use its runes: air and earth for Dust, air and water for Mist. It hits like a yew staff, so it trades power for never buying those runes again.
  • Click the Slayer task chip on the screen to go and fight your task monster.

Journals

  • New Journals tab in Stats: six journals (Forester's, Smith's, Angler's, Warrior's, Mage's and Rogue's), each with an Easy, Medium, Hard and Elite tier. Finish every task in a tier to claim it. There's also a Journals button in Achievements.
  • The tasks are things you were going to do anyway: levels, kills, Slayer tasks, things to find, builds, marks to steal from, gold to hold. Levels and kills you already have count straight away.
  • Each tier you claim puts an Antique Lamp in your bank: 140,000, 625,000, 1,850,000 or 6,350,000 experience in any skill of your choice (the skill must be at level 30, 40, 50 or 70). Rub it from Stats > Journals.
  • Each tier also gives a lasting perk that grows with the tier:
  • Forester's: bird's nests turn up 2.5 / 5 / 7.5 / 10% more often. Elite: a fire sometimes leaves double ash.
  • Smith's: a 2.5 / 5 / 7.5 / 10% chance to save the coal on a smelt. Elite: Superheat sometimes gives its nature rune back.
  • Angler's: burn chance 1 / 2 / 3 / 5 points lower. Elite: cooked fish heal 2 more.
  • Warrior's: combat potions last 5 / 10 / 15 / 25% longer. Elite: one more Slayer point for every task.
  • Mage's: a 2.5 / 5 / 7.5 / 10% chance a combat spell keeps a rune. Elite: Runecrafting sometimes adds a rune.
  • Rogue's: Shadow Veil lasts 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 times as long. Elite: the merchant pays 5% more.

Magic

  • Six new combat spells fill the gap between the bolts and Fire Wave: Water Blast (Magic 47), Earth Blast (53), Fire Blast (59), Wind Wave (62), Water Wave (65) and Earth Wave (70). Max hit now climbs with every spell.
  • Four new Spellcraft spells give astral runes a job: Spin Flax (Magic 76) makes bowstrings, Superglass Make (77) turns sand and seaweed into molten glass with no furnace, Fertile Soil (83) makes supercompost, and Plank Make (86) saws your logs into the plank you pick, if your Crafting is high enough for it. They pay Magic experience only.
  • Robes now steady your casting: they add Magic accuracy, up to +30 for a full Archmage set. They raise your chance to hit, never your max hit. They count for a salamander's Magic attack too.

Armour

  • Leather and hide armour now add Ranged accuracy, from +2 for a leather set to +30 for black dragonhide. Accuracy only, never max hit. Bucklers add none.
  • Every piece of dragonhide you wear turns aside part of each spell thrown at you: 5% per piece for green, up to 8% for black.
  • Veldhide, Prowlerhide and Sabrehide shrug off blades and arrows: each piece worn makes melee and ranged attackers 2% less accurate against you. Granite is unchanged.
  • Gear tooltips and the Equipment stats show the new Ranged accuracy and Magic accuracy lines, and which resist a piece carries.

Slayer trophies

  • Twelve monsters now rarely drop a trophy head: the Crawling Hand, Banshee, Stonegaze Basilisk, Thornback Ravager, Dust Devil, Thornback Brute, Vampyre, Abyssal Demon, Gravewing Fiend, Gargoyle, Dark Beast and the King Black Dragon. Their superiors roll for it too.
  • Sell one for a small fortune, or mount it in your Holding (Construction 38, 58 or 78). A mounted trophy makes that monster and its superior hit you 10% softer, dragonfire and death spawns included. All twelve mounts show in the Construction grid; building one needs its head.

Construction

  • Fancy Range (Construction 60): cooking fuel lasts 1.5 times as long, and burn chance drops another 5 points on top of your bought cooking station.
  • Apothecary Shelves (Construction 68): each potion you finish has a 10% chance to leave its secondary ingredient behind.
  • The top Prayer altar you buy with gold is now the Radiant Altar, so it no longer shares a name with the Gilded Altar you build. Nothing else about it changed.

More to do

  • Tuna (Fishing 35) and monkfish (Fishing 62), with cooked and plague-touched versions. Oysters now turn up at both spots, and caviar at the monkfish spot.
  • Two new Thieving marks: the Paladin (Thieving 70) and the Vyre (Thieving 82). The Vyre is a second way to get Vampyre Dust.
  • Shadow Veil (from Magic 47): switch on "Keep Shadow Veil up" in the Thieving mark picker and it casts itself from your earth, fire and cosmic runes. While it holds, a caught pickpocket sometimes slips away without being stunned. The steal and your streak are still lost.
  • Fly fishing: tick it in the Fishing spot picker and trout and salmon bite more often, for one feather per catch. Run out and you fish on as normal. Once every catch is certain anyway, it spends no feathers.
  • Five empty oyster shells make a bucket of compost at the bin.
  • A new Runecraft pet, the Rift Guardian. It takes the colour of the last rune you crafted, and keeps it.
  • Offering ashes or vampyre dust has its own kneel-and-scatter pose.

Goals and the Plan

  • Right-click the XP bar to set a goal level for that skill. A thin line under the bar fills toward it, and the bar's tooltip says how far you have left and about how long it takes at your recent pace.
  • New Plan tab in Stats: a note to yourself and up to 20 steps. A step like "Reach Farming 60" ticks itself when you get there and can be turned into a goal with one click. An option shows the next step when you hover the XP bar.

Bank and menus

  • The bank shows what everything in it is worth, gold included, right under your gold. Thanks to Mr Vorx for the idea through the in-game feedback button!
  • Sell Mode: selling from the bank now happens only with Sell Mode on (the new button by the quantity row). Every cell gets a red edge and a click sells. It turns itself off when the bank closes. With it off, a click never sells: it opens nests, oysters and seed packs, equips gear, ammo and tar, and puts food and potions in their slots.
  • The recipe picker has an "Only what I can make" switch that hides what you can't make right now, and a "Make:" row: All, 1, or Custom for a set number, with what to do when it's done (stop, or move on to another recipe).
  • After a level-up opens something new, the gold NEW dot now also marks the new tree, ore, fish or recipe in its picker.
  • Hovering a monster in the picker shows its three best-selling everyday drops and its rarest one.
  • The compost picker can put the compost on all your other empty patches at once.
  • Achievements have "Hide unlocked" and "Closest first" switches.
  • In Magic, the rune count above the spellbook is now a small panel: each rune's icon and count, the one that runs out first in amber, and the casts you have left.
  • The Equipment stats list any level a potion or the Imbued Heart is boosting right now.
  • The prayer menu says when a monster's attack gets past your prayer: the Gravewing Fiend's death spawns, and dragonfire.

Guide

  • New Guide pages: how to stop dragonfire, with every shield and potion that helps; all twelve superiors with their art; every slayer trophy with its Construction level; and Shadow Veil with its icon.

Leaderboards

  • The global board now goes past the top 100: page through it 100 ranks at a time.

Achievements

  • Six new: Crowned in Smoke (defeat the King Black Dragon), Heir to the Throne (the Prince Black Dragon), Rift Watcher (the Rift Guardian), A Superior Foe (slay a superior), A Heart Afire (an Imbued Heart) and Chronicler's Cape (the Elite tier of every journal).
  • Boss Slayer and Menagerie now count six bosses and six boss pets. Beast Master asks for every rare pet, now including the Prince Black Dragon and the Rift Guardian. If you already have them, you keep them.
  • Nine early achievements are retired to make room: Getting Started, Apprentice, Pocket Change, Modest Fortune, Hidden Treasure, Smoke Signal, Assembly Line, Gatherer and Bloodied. They leave your count.

New animations

  • A new, snappier woodcutting chop, with every hatchet redrawn for it.
  • Chips fly off the rock when you mine an ore.
  • Enemies flinch when you hit them, and now and then do something while idle. Many have a second attack.
  • Your character flinches when hit, in every combat pose, and the combat idles are smoother.
  • New poses for fishing, cooking, gem cutting, sawing planks, carving bows (the wood matches the log), Herblore and Prayer.
  • Every farm patch sways in the wind, and a diseased crop or tree shows its own withered art. The oak patch grows as an oak at every stage.
  • Market stall awnings ripple, a Hunter trap that breaks lies broken until your next try, and the anvil, grave, compost bin, seed table and potting bench move.
  • A finished fireplace stays lit and a finished fountain keeps running.
  • The Abyssal Lord and the Chaos Elemental burst into flame when they change phase. A puff of smoke marks each new enemy.
  • Pets do something now and then while idle.
  • A burst for an achievement, a finished build and a finished Slayer task.
  • Bird-house birds land head first.
  • The Slayer Goggles lenses are brighter, so they show under every hat.

Settings

  • New in Settings > General > Visual Effects: "Enemy Flinch", "Mining Rock Chips" and "Burned! Messages". All on by default.

Fixes

  • The Thieving streak counter follows Mirror Scene.
  • Key names in the hotkey settings (Ctrl, Shift, Space and so on) are translated.
  • The enchanted-bolt messages, the "Max hit" and "Tar damage" stat lines and a few other lines showed in English in every language. They're translated now.

Under the hood

  • Everything new is translated into all nine languages.
  • Your save carries straight over. No migration needed.

Keep the feedback coming. It's in Settings > Feedback, and every message gets read.
