Melee

“Close-quarters fighting, blade or maul in hand. An edge slashes, a maul crushes, and heavy armor fears the crush far more. Your stance sets what the fighting teaches: Attack, Strength, Defence, or a share of all three, with Hitpoints growing alongside.”

Every skill uses the same XP table: 951,207,314 XP for level 99. Past 99 the XP keeps counting.

How it works

Pick Melee as your skill and a monster to fight. Every input is one attack: there is no attack speed, one press is one swing. A hit that lands gives XP for the damage it did, shared out by your stance, and Hitpoints always gets its own share. A miss gives nothing. The full rules are on Combat.

Stances

StanceTrains
AccurateAttack + Hitpoints
AggressiveStrength + Hitpoints
DefensiveDefence + Hitpoints
SharedAttack (a third), Strength (a third), Defence (a third) + Hitpoints

Stances only decide where the XP goes; they don't change your hits.

Weapons

Swords slash; mauls crush. Heavily armoured monsters shrug off a slash but not a crush (see armour types).
