Cooking
“Cook your raw catch over the fire. A good meal heals and sharpens you; a careless one burns.”
Every skill uses the same XP table: 951,207,314 XP for level 99. Past 99 the XP keeps counting.
How it works
Pick a recipe. Every key press or click moves it along by one input; when it has the inputs it needs, the materials are used up and you get the product and the XP. The materials have to stay in your bank until then. Compare recipes by XP per input: that is your XP rate, however fast you go.
The Agility perk Careful Hands can save the materials of a finished recipe (up to 35% of the time).

Burning
Cooking over heat can burn (prep work like flour or dough never does). At a recipe's own level the chance is 45%; it shrinks with every level above that and is gone 15 levels past it. A better cooking station cuts what is left. A burn still gives you the XP; the food comes out burnt.
burn = 0.45 × (1 − levels above the recipe / 15) × (1 − station cut)| Station | Level | Cost | Burns cut by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Campfire | 1 | Free | 0% |
| Stone Cooking Pit | 30 | 1,000,000 gold | 15% |
| Iron Stove | 55 | 5,000,000 gold | 30% |
| Infernal Range | 80 | 20,000,000 gold | 50% |
Stations are bought once and the best one you own is always used.
Fuel
Anything cooked over the fire (the "Cooked ..." foods) needs logs. Pick a log; each one lasts a number of finished cooks. Run out and the lowest log in your bank is used next. Pies, bread and the like need no fuel.
Cooked food heals in combat and gives skilling buffs; see Food.
Fastest XP
